Purdue Northwest Classroom Office Building

Purdue University Northwest

Hammond, IN

Purdue University selected The Pangere Corporation as the Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc) for Phase I and II Renovation of their Classroom Office Building. Pangere provided preconstruction services and is currently engaged in construction management services for Phase II of the project.

The Pangere Corporation completed the 1st Floor Renovation of Purdue University Northwest Classroom Office Building. Located on the north side of campus, the building has interconnecting, indoor walkways, resulting in climate-controlled linkage to the university’s Anderson, Potter, Powers Computer Education, and Gyte Science and annex buildings. Elements of the project included the renovation of an existing study and vending lounge to incorporate a new cafe, renovated collaborative spaces, conferencing space, and faculty offices to include a private kitchen and lounge.

The spacious 1st floor also received new flooring, glazing, lighting, furniture, and electronics. This project was designed to enhance campus identity and focus on the University’s commitment to its rich and diverse student body. The design focused on color, lighting, and functionality of the space. Creating a space to promote social interaction and a break from the “classroom” setting. Pangere is proud to have been part of the Team that worked together towards a successful project turnover. PNW’s newly renovated 1st Floor Classroom Office Building provides services to currently enrolled students. And allows for faculty to use state-of-the-art technology to enhance the instruction of the students.

Student spaces provide opportunities for connections, collaboration, and learning outside the classroom. They help create a compelling and holistic student experience and foster a sense of community on campus. While the Student Union and Library Building serves as a hub for student activity on the Hammond Campus, there is a lack of decentralized spaces for students to spend time between scheduled activities. The Classroom Office (CLO) Building Ground Floor Renovation Phase I was such a draw to the student population and has become the “favorite” spot to meet between classes.

Building on this success, Purdue has proceeded with the continued renovation of the ground floor of the CLO Building in Phase II. The renovation will include classrooms, conference spaces, a multicultural lounge, and a main hall that will be able to serve as assembly space for larger social academic functions.

During the Preconstruction Phase of Services, Pangere led the process with Shive-Hattery Architects and Purdue University to leverage early supplier engagement and continuous monitoring of long-lead items to ensure schedule completion. In addition, Senior Project Manager, Doug Strickley worked collaboratively with Shive-Hattery and Millies Engineering to assure cost savings by providing cost options for column covers, flooring, retractable storefront glazing systems, and several suite spaces to maximize their budget.
