Our History

It all Started When…

At the age of 16, John T. Pangere left a small island in Greece and boarded a ship heading for the United States to live the American dream. It wasn't long after his arrival that John began painting his way to his very own business. Traveling throughout the Midwest from Pittsburgh to St. Louis, John finally settled down in Gary, Indiana, in 1905 and started The Pangere Corporation. He began servicing customers such as United States Steel, Inland Steel, Wisconsin Steel, and Youngstown Sheet and Tube.

At the age of 12, John's son, Nicholas J. Pangere, traveled from that same island in Greece to live with his family in America. Nicholas went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. During World War II, Nicholas served two years in the Army Corps of Engineers in Hawaii, applying his engineering education. He would eventually bring his experience home to Gary in 1945, helping his father with the business. In 1946, John T. Pangere passed away and Nicholas found himself leading the company. Under his direction, the corporation expanded into general construction, structural steel erection, and metal roofing and siding.

Nick's son, Steve N. Pangere marked the third generation when he joined his father in the family business in 1972 after graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management. The Pangere Corporation continued expanding its services. In 1994, Steve assumed the leadership of The Pangere Corporation as President and CEO. Steve embraced the values instilled in him by his father, which remain the company’s core values.

Today, Anthony S. Pangere works alongside his father Steve as the fourth generation. Tony, a graduate in finance from Roosevelt University in Chicago, is the company’s Vice President and Safety Director.
