Conseco Fieldhouse

SITUATION

The Pangere Corp. got a bonus when it was selected to paint and decorate the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers and the WNBA's Indiana Fever. Not only was the project a bit more exciting than most, but for its work, the company later received the "Subcontractor of the Year" award from the Construction Advancement Foundation. The Construction Advancement Foundation was formed in 1967 to provide support for union contractors and the construction trade unions.

RESPONSE

The Pangere Corporation provided 25 union painters in a $1.3 million contract to work with more than 1,200 craftsmen from other trades. The fieldhouse, designed in a retro style to depict Indiana's rich basketball heritage, opened in November 1999 after more than two years of construction at a cost of $183 million.

"With that many people working, they were building the whole thing with all of us following right behind each other," said Steve Pangere, President. "We worked on the project for nine months, and it was a lot of work."

In all, the Pangere team applied more than 7,000 lineal yards of wall covering and more than 13,000 gallons of paint and coatings.

Scope of responsibilities and services provided:

  • Multi-color coatings (such as Zolatone, Polymix)
  • Special coatings (such as epoxies, urethanes)
  • All types of wallcoverings
  • Faux finishes
  • Floor painting
  • Electrostatic spray painting
  • Wood staining & finishing
  • Graphics
  • Work required the utilization of twenty-five (25) union painters
  • Installed 7,000 lineal yards of wall covering
  • Applied 13,000 gallons of paint and coatings

RESULTS

"It really was a lot of fun," said Pangere. "As the fieldhouse became more complete, you saw them move in exercise equipment, offices for Larry Bird and lounges that are not open to the public. We were really part of something from the ground up."

"We're especially proud of the fact that we used all of our own people for the Conseco job, which has been a hallmark of our customer service approach," Pangere said.
